AI RESEARCH ENGINEER @ PANASONIC · SINGAPORE

Alphaeus Ng

AI Research Engineer

Production ML and applied CV — systems that have to work outside a notebook.

Currently at Panasonic (Singapore) building supply-chain automation end to end. Previously at HTX on checkpoint computer vision. B.Eng Computer Science, NTU (2024).

Outside work I study Scripture and theology with the same seriousness I bring to debugging models. That is not a slogan — it is how I try to live and work.

WHO I AM

The Story

How I got here — in engineering and in faith.

I first got drawn into AI watching systems like AlphaGo and AlphaStar. That curiosity led into computer science, then into production systems that have to hold up outside a clean notebook.

I am an AI Research Engineer at Panasonic (Singapore), owning internal supply-chain automation tools end to end. Before that I interned at HTX on checkpoint computer vision. Both roles rewarded the same habit: finish the last 20% that makes something actually usable.

Outside work I read Scripture and study theology. I do not treat faith as branding. I treat it as the claim that Jesus is Lord — which means my work, speech, and study should be answerable to something truer than my preferences.

“The created creating,
pursuing the Uncaused Cause.”

— A line I still use as a check on myself

PATH

Journey

AI Research Engineer

Panasonic • Singapore

2024 — Present

Own internal supply-chain automation tools end to end (Python, Streamlit): replaced brittle Excel workflows for planning teams and cut planning cycle time by roughly 5×. Scope covers data ingestion, UI, and the last-mile reliability work that makes tools stick.

AI Developer Intern

HTX (Home Team Science & Technology Agency) — CBRNE Centre

2023

Built computer-vision pipelines for prohibited-item detection on operational X-ray imagery at Singapore checkpoints (data collection at sites including Tuas, Woodlands, and Changi; annotation; training; evaluation; handoff). Models contributed to deployed border capability.

B.Eng Computer Science

Nanyang Technological University

2020 — 2024

Final Year Project: scene-text detection + translation pipeline (EasyOCR, PyTorch, Flask, React) for natural images and manga panels, with in-image re-rendering. Also completed URECA research under Prof Andrea Nanetti / Prof Erik Cambria on Engineering Historical Memory.

OTHER CHAPTERS
2015 — 2018

Diploma in Biomedical Science

Singapore Polytechnic

Studied biomedical science before switching to computing. It gave me a lasting appreciation for careful measurement, evidence, and attention to detail.

2018 — 2020

Combat Medic Sergeant

MMI • Singapore Armed Forces

Served as a combat medic sergeant during national service. It was a meaningful experience that taught me to stay calm in high-pressure situations, respond to emergencies, and make careful decisions with limited time and information.

2021 — 2022

URECA Student Researcher

NTU SCSE • Prof Andrea Nanetti

Worked on the Engineering Historical Memory website as part of my URECA project under Prof Andrea Nanetti and Prof Erik Cambria, with the work also referenced in Computational Engineering of Historical Memories.

INTERESTS

What I think about

Themes I return to in work and study. Not a finished blog — longer notes live under Faith and on GitHub.

Durable tools over demo theatre

I care more about systems that stay useful after launch than about model novelty alone — evaluation, handoff, and the last 20% of reliability.

Precision in language

Whether the domain is ML metrics or doctrine, sloppy words hide bad reasoning. Define terms; show work; admit uncertainty.

Models are maps, not territory

Statistical and theological models compress reality. Forgetting that is how you confuse the explanation with the world.

Making serious study navigable

See Seeking Biblical Truth and the journey documents under Faith.

FAITH

Faith

Work matters. Christ matters more. Church, study notes, and the longer record of how I got here — not a decorative footer.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

— John 1:1

CHURCH

Bethesda Church Bukit Arang

I attend Bethesda Church Bukit Arang. It has been one of the places where the gospel became more personal, concrete, and formative in my life.

114 Serangoon Avenue 3, Singapore 556110

SUMMARY

I started with inherited belief and a lot of apologetics. Over time, that became a more personal search for truth, with Scripture first, Christ at the center, and enough honesty to admit that some of my favorite frameworks were too small.

That meant wrestling seriously with sovereignty, free will, baptism, church life, and the kind of teaching that produces repentance, joy, unity, and love for Jesus.

The thing that has held steady is simple: salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Jesus alone. If doctrine does not make us more honest, more humble, and more alive to God, something is off.

JOURNEY DOCUMENTS
Thoughts on the Bible

Started in 2020 as an attempt to read what the Bible actually says, slowly and honestly, even when the answers are inconvenient.

God's Will & Sovereignty

A long study of free will, depravity, responsibility, and divine sovereignty that pushed me toward a more careful and humble view of doctrine.

Alphaeus' thoughts

My reflections on moving church, and why I came to believe I needed a more Christ-centered, grace-filled place to grow.

Baptism Testimony

A short account of apologetics, sin, and the point where grace stopped being a concept and became something I actually needed.

Revelation 21:9–21 sermon deck

From my brief season pursuing a Masters in Ministry at Heritage Christian University. It focuses on the New Jerusalem, final victory, and God dwelling with His people.

NORTH STAR

The created creating, pursuing the Uncaused Cause.

A personal reminder: build things that are true enough to use, and keep studying under the God who made the world those models approximate.
